Sunlight parted the clouds this morning, sunlight parted the clouds and lifted my heart for just a moment, lifted my heart and helped me see possibilities for a future in which we are liberated from the chains of racism.
"God only knows" (a sonnet)
I have been pulled over by the police once in my 35 years. I was 17 years old, running late for curfew, driving 10 miles over the speed limit on the way home from my boyfriend's house. I was so scared I was shaking. I don't remember if I got a ticket or a warning that night, but I do know the officer who stopped me treated me with respect. I did not fear for my life.
Sweet magnolias adorn the tree near the street corner, a canopy of white and blush interrupting blue sky. For a mere two weeks, give or take, these blooms brighten the neighborhood, calling us to bear witness to their loveliness before they wither.
"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24). Reveling in the good grace of Easter — now and always. 💗
